As I suspected back in early January the lure of Daytona is too much to resist. Tomorrow morning my brother, a friend, and myself are pointing my bike and their Harleys (can't resist the dig) south and heading for the races at Daytona. We're meeting near Benson, NC at the junction of I-40 and I-95 and heading south from there, not to return until next Sunday.
It should be an interesting experience for me because, while I've ridden that many miles in a day on quite a few occasions, I've never actually just gotten on the highway and droned along for 500+ miles. It'll be my longest bike trip from and duration standpoint and the one that covers the most distance, if not necessarily the most actual miles. I'm also hoping that the weather holds. The weather here tonight is pretty nasty, although it's supposed to have cleared by morning. The ride down is projected to be nice but some of the days we're down there are supposed to have good possibilities of thunderstorms and the like. Well, me and Cavallo (my Multistrada) have been wet before and I feel pretty certain we'll be wet again so I'm not too worried about it as long as all it does is rain. Also, we're in no great hurry and under no real time constraints so we can always just stop if it gets too bad.
Whatever happens it should be quite the adventure and a lot of fun. I'll definitely be writing about it and probably posting pics upon my return. Wish us luck!
