I'm Gonna Be a Crackhead!

I thought I was going to avoid this fate, but it looks like I'm about to become a Crack(berry) head. I've long been a mobile device aficionado, first using Palm Pilots, then moving to a Palm Treo 650, then a 680, then finally taking the plunge to a Windows Mobile device. The main reason I went with Windows Mobile is programmability, since it's so easy to write software for Windows Mobile using the .Net Mobile Framework. Now however, it appears that the company I work for is going to be giving me a Blackberry. Since the whole reason I started using smart phones and converged devices was to get away from carrying multiple devices (like a phone and a Palm Pilot) I'll be retiring my HTC Wizard in favor of a Blackberry 8820.

Frankly, I can't say I'll be sad to see the WinMob device go. It has potential, but Windows Mobile is so brutally slow that using the device is often frustrating and painful. I decided upon seeing the first demos of the new Google Android mobile operating system that as soon as Android hardware was release the Windows Mobile device was getting dumped.

As soon as I get the new device and spend a little time with it I'll be writing some posts discussing it. I'll probably even do a little "mobile roundup" and talk about the differences between the Blackberry, the Treo, and the Windows Mobile device.
